How to Advertise Your Stud Dog: What Actually Gets Bookings
A high-quality stud dog with excellent genetics, full health testing, and a beautiful pedigree will not get bookings if his listing is poorly presented. Dam owners — particularly experienced breeders — know exactly what they are looking for. Here is what actually drives bookings and how to present your stud to the right audience.
What Dam Owners Look for First
Health test documentation: This is the first filter. Experienced breeders go immediately to the health section of a listing. If the stud has OFA certifications, CAER, and a DNA panel, state them clearly with the OFA lookup number so they can be verified. If health testing is incomplete, say so honestly — a half-tested stud listed honestly is better than one where health status is unclear.
AKC registration number: Include it. Let potential dam owners verify his registration status themselves. If he has a limited registration, disclose it upfront rather than having it discovered later.
Colour/pattern genetics if relevant: For breeds where colour matters — French Bulldogs, Poodles, Doodles, Australian Shepherds — list his tested colour genetics clearly. At/at, E/e, Bb, dd, merle status, furnishings — whatever is relevant to your breed.
Photos that show conformation, not just cuteness: An adorable face photo tells a breeder very little. Include standing side shots, front views, and ideally movement photos. If he has a show record, include his title and a photo in the ring.
Platform Selection
Breed-specific Facebook groups: The fastest way to reach active breeders in your breed community. Join the major breeding groups for your breed and post when your stud is available for bookings.
Dedicated stud registries and marketplaces: Platforms where dam owners actively search for studs by breed and health testing credentials are efficient — dam owners who come to these platforms are already looking.
Your own website or social presence: If you have an active kennel website or Instagram, your established followers are warm leads who already trust your program.
AKC Marketplace: Reaches a broad audience. Include stud service listings where applicable.
